World Monster Fishing ADV (TRIAL VERSION)
A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux
After catching monster fish and publishing shocking reports from all over the world, the editor-in-chief of the extreme fishing magazine World Monster Graphic mysteriously disappears. 24 years later a new editor-in-chief takes the reins of the magazine trying to bring it back to its glory days.
- A fishing visual novel!
- Lo-fi aesthetic mimicking the MSX2 graphical specs:
256x192 resolution 16 colors - Original music made by me!
This visual novel was inspired by a fishing game I used to play a lot when I was a kid: Fisherman's Bait 2 by Konami. I especially loved the Monster Fishing mode in which you would catch all sorts of crazy fishes all over the world. I later found out that this mode had a proper story in Fisherman's Bait 3, Big Ol'Bass 2 in the USA, so I thought it would be cool to set a story in that universe.
This is also the return of my idea of telling stories with (fake) game interfaces. I first played with this idea in Haunted Club Manager 88 using the sport manager genre, for this game I wanted to use things like "line tension" stats and "line length" to enhance the narrative. This took a large part of development because not only did these stats have to work properly but it was also important how fast they change (for example: very fast fish getting away).
Despite figuring out that part, IRL work got really in the way during the last week so I'm releasing just a prototype of my idea for Tackle Box Fishing Jam, sorry if it's a bit unpolished!
